BETTING: Wijnaldum wary of Porto test

Liverpool

Georginio Wijnaldum says Liverpool’s first aim is to still be in the tie after Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg in Porto.

The Reds go to Portugal for their first knockout Champions League clash since 2009, hoping to claim a positive result ahead of the return game at Anfield on March 6.

Midfielder Wijnaldum is aware how important the first leg is but he warned the tie will not be won this week, regardless of the outcome at the Estadio do Dragao.

“The game will not be decided in one leg, it’s over two legs,” he told the club’s website. “In the first leg you must make sure you have a good result for the second leg.

“That’s what we have to do because you know you can’t win it in one leg. You can see with other games and other clubs that strange things can happen.

“Last season, PSG against Barcelona – everybody already thought that Barcelona was out [after the first leg] but they still changed it. So I think the most important thing is to have a good result for the next game.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side breezed through their group and will fancy their chances of overcoming Porto over the two games, even though their opponents are top of the Portuguese league and experienced Champions League campaigners themselves.

Punters wanting to use their free bet may want to back the Reds to secure a narrow first-leg advantage as they aim to progress in the competition.
